The purpose of the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture Rising College Junior/Senior Scholarship for Agriculture is to assist outstanding students who have been pursuing an academic career focusing on agriculture and who have exhibited leadership skills for active involvement in the agriculture sector while in college.
- New Subcategory Opportunity: Thanks to the generous support of Mr. Mac Peden, applicants for this scholarship may also be considered for the Back to Farm Scholarship for Agriculture, a $1,000 award recognizing one student who demonstrates a clear commitment to returning to the farm and building a career in production agriculture.
To be eligible, applicant must:
1. Be a Georgia resident majoring in agricultural & environmental sciences, family & consumer sciences or a related ag field.
2. Be a current college sophomore or junior with at least two semesters remaining to receive an undergraduate degree at a unit of The University System of Georgia, Berry College, Emmanuel College or any accredited college/university in Georgia with an ag program.
3. Be engaged in leadership activities in college.
4. Have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
To be eligible for the Back to Farm Scholarship (Junior Senior Subcategory), applicant must:
1. Meet all eligibility requirements listed above for the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture Rising College Junior/Senior Scholarship for Agriculture.
2. Must show a clear commitment to returning to the farm and building a career in production agriculture, after college.
Supporting documents required:
1. Essay outlining your future plans as they relate to agriculture and how you think you can impact the future of the agriculture industry. The essay should be at least one page, but no more than two pages, double spaced, Times New Roman or Arial font.
2. Copy of transcript.
3. One letter of reference from a professor.
4. One letter of reference from your academic advisor.
5. Professional Photo of the applicant.
6. (For applicants applying/eligible for the Back to Farm Scholarship) Back to Farm Statement: A short essay (up to 500 words) describing your plans to return to the farm or pursue a career in production agriculture. Include details about your farming background, what motivates you to continue Georgia’s farming legacy, and how you envision your role in production agriculture after graduation.
